Bump n Grind 2008

I haven't been on a starting line in over a year and the last race that I did attend was the 2007 Bump n Grind where I made it a whole 5 minutes into the race before I double flatted and had to walk out. I decided that I would seek revenge on this course for 2008 by racing the singlespeed class. The race started well and I went into the woods in 2nd place, stayed up front for half the course and felt like I was on my way to a podium finish. And then....

My valve stem broke! Where is the little piece!

Hello???? I don't see you holding air any longer!

I also managed to decorate my rim with a nice big dent. The tire went flat so fast when the valve stem broke off, that I could not stop quick enough before slamming the rim into a rock! LOVELY!

I call this...Shades of last years flat tire.

About a minute after this picture was taken, my race was over.

The bike did not fulfill its duties.

Luckily, Rebecca did not have the any bike problems and she was able to finish her race with a proper time.

I do believe that Rebecca has passed along her flat-attack-at-bump mojo onto me. Her bike survived for the second year in a row.

Even though I went home empty handed, I went home a lot happier than this guy did. OUCH!

I will seek revenge again in 2009. Maybe I will just fill my tires with marshmellows so that when the inevitable flat occurs, I can finish the race or atleast have a trail side snack.
