Oak Mtn. Ride

Saturday we made the trip to Birmingham, AL to ride the trails at Oak Mountain State park. We are racing there in 2 weeks and thought that we would get in a little pre-riding and run the dog until she was tripping on her own tongue. We raced Bump & Grind last year and Rebecca had a great race while I double flatted in the first 5 minutes of the race. Hopefully my Stan's-up'd Kenda's will fare better this year.

Rebecca's super pink Surly SS is ready to go.

The green Surly SS hasn't decided if it wants to go. Too bad!

Nola was chillin' while waiting for her slow people to get ready.

I think this gal is ready?

and finally this wierdo is ready.

Nola's view. At this point she was no longer sprinting and so began lumbering dog pace for the rest of the first lap.

The infamous blood rock section. It gets a lot of hype, but it really isn't bad at all. Most of Moab trails are made up of miles of this stuff. Rebecca comes into it full gas.

Nearly done, just the one last turn and drop.

She is working hard now!

Nola did blood rock section too. She made it look easy.

My turn.

Is there a line here?

Almost there.

Three laps later and 50 plus miles the bikes are tired and a tad dirty. We did learn that this trail system does not drain so well. Still a fun ride and can't wait for the race.

Some of the wildlife seen that day. Unfortunately we didn't have the camera when we saw the huge black snake or the huge mystery snake that had just eaten some rodent. Yummy!

that is all...
